Geraldine Chaplin Biography

Geraldine Chaplin was born in Santa Monica, California. Geraldine Chaplin is the first child of actor/director Charlie Chaplin and Oona O'Neill. Chaplin received her education at a boarding school in Switzerland where she became fluent in French & Spanish. Geraldine Chaplin lives much of her time in Miami, Florida at home next to the beach.


At the age of eight Geraldine Chaplin appeared uncredited in her father's film Limelight. Chaplin wanted to become a ballet dancer but she have to drop the idea of becoming a dancer and she followed her father into the acting profession. In 1965, David Lean chose her to play Tonya, the main character's devoted wife in his film Doctor Zhivago. 
In 1969, she was featured in Honeyc omb. Later this film was entered into the 19th Berlin International Film Festival. In 1975, Nashville was the film she appeared in and for which she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress Award in Golden Globe Awards. 


Again in 1976, she was nominated in the same category of Best supporting Actress for her role in the film Welcome to L.A., directed by Alan Rudolph. In 1992, for the movie made on her father's life Chaplin, she was once again nominated for a Best Supporting Actress category in Golden Globe Awards.
In 1970s she appeared in several of Robert Altman's films. Geraldine Chaplin also starred in nine movies directed by Carlos Saura. In 1976, she was appeared in Cria cuervos, then in 1977 she was featured in Elisavida mia and in 1979 her film Mama Turns a Hundred hit the cinema screen. 
In 2002, she was featured in En la ciudad sin limites and for her great acting in the film she also received a Goya Award, for the category Best Supporting Actress Award.


Geraldine Chaplin married a long time companion, Chilean cinematographer Patricio Castilla, in 2006 and has two children, Shane and Oona.
